Expert Pool Tiling in Sydney

If your pool needs new tiles, repairs to existing tiling, or you’re thinking about converting from another finish to tiles, I can help. I’m a licensed pool tiler with proper insurance, and I take pride in doing quality work that lasts. Over the years, I’ve built up lots of experience with all kinds of pools – from small plunge pools to big family-sized ones and even some fancy lap pools with special features

What I Do

  • I have been tiling pools all over Sydney for over 25 years. I started out doing general tiling but found I really enjoyed the challenge of pool work.

    I work on:
    * Waterline tile repairs
    * Full pool interiors
    * Pool edges and surrounds
    * Steps and spa areas
    * Feature walls

    Completed many tiling jobs on swimming pools all over Sydney. From tiny backyard ones to big family pools.

Why Tile Your Pool?

Tiles just last better than other finishes. They don’t go rough like pebblecrete or bubble up like fibreglass. Feel nicer on your feet too.

Had a customer in Penrith who said his kids actually swim more now after I retiled their pool – no more scratched legs.

The glass tiles reflect the light in the water which makes the pool look better. On sunny days, you get that nice sparkle effect that you don’t get with other finishes.

Tiles Used

For inside pools, glass mosaics work best. They give that nice sparkly look underwater. Bit more expensive but worth it.

For around the pool, you need tiles that aren’t slippery when wet and don’t get too hot. Usually porcelain or sealed stone works well.

I don’t sell tiles myself but can point you to good suppliers.

The mosaic sheets make installation quicker but still need to be done right. They’re usually about 300mm square sheets with the little tiles on them. This makes it easier to follow the curves of the pool.

Pool Tiling vs Regular Tiling

Not the same as bathroom tiling. Pool tiles have:
* Water pressure pushing on them
* Chemicals attacking the grout
* Sun and weather hitting them
* Movement from the ground

I’ve fixed plenty of pools where someone tried to save money. It always ends up costing more.

I had a job in Balmain where the owner got his regular tiler to do the pool. Six months later most of the tiles were falling off. It cost him double to get me to fix it properly with the right materials.

How I Work

Pretty simple:
1. I come to look at your pool
2. We work out what needs doing
3. I give you a quote
4. We book it in and I do it

No surprise costs later.

I drain the pool first, then prep the surface properly. Any cracks or damage get fixed before waterproofing goes on. Then we tile and grout with the proper pool-grade materials.

What It Costs

Depends what you need:
* Just fixing waterline: $1500-3000
* Full interior: $8000-15000
* Surrounds: $80-120 per m² plus tiles

Price varies with pool size, shape and what tiles you pick.

Not the cheapest but won’t need redoing next year either.

The cheap quotes usually leave stuff out or use inferior materials. I’ve seen quotes that don’t include waterproofing or proper surface prep. That’s asking for trouble.

Maintenance Tips

Once done, maintaining tiles isn’t hard:
* Keep your water balanced
* Clean the waterline sometimes
* Fix loose bits before they get worse

I did a pool in Cronulla 10 years back. Saw it last year and still looks good because they look after it.

The biggest enemy of pool tiles is bad water chemistry. Too much acid eats the grout, too much chlorine can fade some tiles. It’s worth getting a decent test kit and keeping it balanced.

Common Problems

Get called for:
* Falling tiles
* Crumbly grout
* Cracked coping
* Faded old mosaics

Sometimes I can just fix bad bits. Sometimes it’s better to redo it all. I’ll tell you straight what I think.

I had a job in the Eastern Suburbs where just a few tiles had come loose. Owner thought whole pool needed redoing but I saved them thousands by just fixing the problem area.

Experience With Different Pools

Over the years I’ve worked on all sorts:
* Concrete pools – most common for tiling
* Fibreglass pools – can sometimes be tiled but needs special prep
* Vinyl liner pools – not usually suitable for tiling
* Above-ground pools – rarely tiled but sometimes do the surrounds

Concrete pools are the best for tiling. They’ve got the solid structure needed to hold the tiles properly for years.

Where I Work

Most of Sydney:
* Eastern Suburbs
* Inner West
* North Shore
* Northern Beaches
* Western areas (not too far out)

Some commercial pools are too big for me. I’ll say so if that’s the case.

Recent Jobs

Just finished a pool in Mosman – full interior retile with blue glass mosaics. Came up really nice. Owner’s very happy with it.

Did a tricky repair job in Parramatta where the pool had cracked and tiles were falling off. Fixed the structure first then retiled. Looks like new now.

Helped a family in Liverpool with just their waterline tiles and surrounds. Made a big difference without the cost of a full retile.

 Best Time For Pool Work

If you’re thinking about getting your pool done, autumn and winter are usually best. Pool’s not being used as much and I’m not as busy.

Spring gets hectic with everyone wanting their pool ready for summer. Usually booked out weeks ahead by September.

Need to see your pool to quote properly. Gets busy in spring, so call early if you can.

Been doing this for many years now. Know what works and what doesn’t. Happy to have a look at your pool.

Licensed and insured for your peace of mind. All work guaranteed.
